A Bit About Me
East Van Blooms was born in 2019 from a love of fresh cut flowers and the desire to grow them locally in my urban environment at that time, East Vancouver, British Columbia.
My love of flowers began in my mum and dad’s rose garden. The summer colours and scent in our southern Ontario garden were so captivating! I was always snipping the best blooms and bringing them in the house.
Allyson, loving the harvest.
We moved from the city and now grow unique cut flowers on a sunny half acre paradise in the beautiful Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. All our annual blooms are started from seed and field-grown to supply fresh, small-scale cut flowers to our local community.
Growing cut flowers allows us to contribute to the appreciation of sustainable, seasonal flowers and add colour of this beautiful Island community in my own small way.
Sustainability can come in the form of growing your own food and growing your own beauty…we have always leaned into the beauty!
a few of my favourite things…
Arranging some of my backyard blooms in my favourite enamel pitcher. Jelly, the cat, is a poser.
Educated as a biologist, I have a passion for natural systems and the beauty of science. I also love “makers”, roller skating, the desert (more flowers than you think!), and dancing with my friends.
Astrantia! I could stare at their delicate, intricate structure for days. I still struggle to grow these from seed, apparently a tough task. If you have any tips let me know!!
Muddy boots and buckets of blooms! This definitely make me a very happy flower grower.
